Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions. 1 John 3:18 (NLT)
The baby Jesus shows us that love is something you do. You show love by what you do, not just by what you feel.

Do you really love someone? Let's see how you act toward that person.

Love is more than attraction and more than arousal. It's also more than sentimentality, like so many of today's songs suggest. By this standard, is love dead when the emotion is gone? No, not at all. Because love is an action; love is a behavior.

Over and over again, in the Bible, God commands us to love each other. And you can't command an emotion. If I told you "Be sad!" right now, you couldn't be sad on cue. Just like an actor, you can fake it, but you're not wired for your emotions to change on command. Have you ever told a little kid, "Be happy!" I'm trying, daddy!

If love were just an emotion, then God couldn't command it. But love is something you do. It can produce emotion, but love is an action.

The Bible says, "Let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions" (1 John 3:18 NLT). We can talk a good act: "I love people." But do we really love them? Do you really love them? Our love is revealed in how we act toward them

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7 (NLT)
Love is a skill that can be learned. In other words, it's something you can get good at and that means you get better at love by practicing love. There is no time better than the Christmas season to practice loving others.

You may think you're a good lover, but God wants you to become a great lover, a skilled lover, a master lover. Yet, most people never learn how to love. You can become an expert at relationships.

Wouldn't you like to become known as a person of extraordinary love? When people speak of you they might say: "He doesn't care who you are or what you look like." "She doesn't care where you've been or what you've done or where you're from."

The only way you get skilled at something is to practice. You do it over and over. The first time you do it, it feels awkward, but the more you do it, the better you become.

The same is true with love (1 John 4:7). Let's practice loving each other. As the Bible says, "Practice these things; be committed to them, so that your progress may be evident to all" (1 Timothy 4:15 HCSB).

I Timothy 2:19 "Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

I remember once hearing someone say, "When I get to heaven and see God I will ask Him why He allowed this to happen?" It seems like a lot of us want answers from God when it comes to our lives. A lot of us question His sovereignty when it comes to things that happen in our lives. Our response and communication to God the Creator depends not on our desire to want to know Him better but because things are not going the way we think they should. Many of us give up our faith in Him based on His goodness - or what we think is His lack of goodness in our lives. The problem is that we see God as we want to see God and not for who He really is, the Creator of the Universe and everything we see and do not see. He is the one who created every aspect of who we are. Every minute detail of who you are, including when you would be born and when you would die was placed in your DNA when God the Creator put you together and gave you that first breath as a little baby.

So how should we see God when our life does not reflect the perfection we demand of Him according to our efforts? Well, one thing is that He is still God and He knows you and His plan for your life. Paul said, "Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." Regardless of what this world brings our way, God's solid foundation stands firm. It does not mean our foundation, but His foundation. So if this stands true, regardless of whether our foundation stands or not, we can always jump ship and land on His solid, unmovable foundation. Not only does His foundation stand solid and firm, but He knows who are His so that in knowing, He allows the things of this world to affect us so that we can learn to depend on Him who is unmovable. I might not understand what is happening to me today, but I can understand that whatever is happening in our lives, He knows.

The Rock by Adam Edelstein (Posted on Christ in Tech website with a link on Facebook)

The Rock

November 16, 2009

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might.

This the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain.

Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, Satan decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man’s mind such as: “You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn’t budged. Why kill yourself over this? You are never going to move it.”

Thus giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure, these thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man even more. “Why kill myself over this?” he thought. “I’ll just put in my time, giving just the minimum effort, and that will be good enough.”

And that he planned to do until one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. “Lord,” he said, “I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?”

To this the Lord responded compassionately, “My friend, when I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to me, with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewed and brown, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven’t moved the rock. But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done.

“I, my friend, will now move the rock.”

At times when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what he wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in him…

By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but it is still God who moves the mountains.

God, You call us to obedience everyday. Sometimes, I want to see beyond obedience. I want to know why, how and when. Yet, it is usually long after the obedience that I begin to realize what Your plan was back then. So help me just be obedient for today. I am learning, Lord that by being obedient today, I am stronger for tomorrow. In Jesus‘ Name, AMEN!

Lamentations 3:25-36 "The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD."

It has been an interesting day. It was the coldest it's been since I arrived in Michigan about ten days ago. But this time the wind was blowing. So as I went to sleep, it seemed to be a cold and windy evening. But when I woke up, I noticed that the ground was no longer green with the grass but it has turned white. The area had received five to six inches of snow overnight. That has always intrigued me. When it rains, I hear it fall. When the wind blows I hear it blow. When hail falls you can hear it crash. When hurricanes or tornadoes come, you can hear the force of their terror. But when snows fall, it falls nice and quiet. No one hears it come and no one hears it fall but it surprises us when we wake up. In many ways that was the Apache's life a long time ago. We depended on our ability to hide and slowly creep up to those we were going after. Our arrows were short so that meant they were for short range. That meant we had to sneak up to our enemy or our prey before shooting an arrow. We either hit our target or became a target ourselves.

Waiting quietly is a good thing. Our people waited patiently and quietly. Our people waited for the right time before they took action. In many ways, that is the way we need to wait on God the Creator when we go before Him. In Lamentations it says, "The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD." When we wait quietly, we are able to hear and listen to God the Creator when He calls and answers you. When we wait quietly, we are able to hear His will for our lives and are able to discern when He speaks and answers our prayers. For those whose hope is in God, for those who seek His will for each situation in life, He wants us to wait quietly so that we are able to hear Him when He speaks. Sit quietly and hear the voice of the Lord. Do not get ahead of the game and lose the battle. Wait for the right time and the right place and the right method before you go out for the attack.

As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.
2 PETER 1:3

"As a Christian, you have everything you need to live a holy and abundant life (2 Pet. 1:3-11). Your intelligence, your education, or your family background do not determine the holiness of your life. Everything you need to live a victorious, joyful, and abundant life is found in the Holy Spirit who resides within you (Gal. 5:22-23).

According to Peter, each Christian, by faith, has access to these qualities: goodness, knowledge of God, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. It would be of no use to inherit a fortune if you did not know it was yours. Likewise, it is of no benefit to inherit everything necessary to become like Christ if you do not claim it.

If we continue to lack self-control when God has made it available, we rob ourselves and those around us. If God is willing to instill brotherly kindness into our behavior, but we never display it, people will suffer needlessly as a result.

The key to all that God has made available to us is our faith. We must believe that God wants to build these qualities into our lives. In the Gospels, Jesus related to people according to their faith (Matt. 8:13; 9:29; 15:28). He rewarded genuine faith by granting salvation and healing. If He met unbelief, He did not reward it (Mark 6:5-6).

Review the qualities that Peter said God wants to instill in you. If you lack any of these qualities, ask God to work them into your character, so that you will be more like Christ."

Love Is a Choice by Rick Warren (Posted on Facebook by Mia Swanepoel)

Love Is a Choice

December 09, 2009

... That you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Deuteronomy 30:20 (NIV)
The birth of Jesus reflects the truth that love is a choice and a commitment. You choose to love or you choose not to love.

Today we've bought into this myth that love is uncontrollable, that it's something that just happens to us; it's not something we control. In fact, even the language we use implies the uncontrollably of love. We say, "I fell in love," as if love is some kind of a ditch. It's like I'm walking along one day and bam! - I fell in love. I couldn't help myself.

But I have to tell you the truth - that's not love. Love doesn't just happen to you. Love is a choice and it represents a commitment.

There's no doubt about it, attraction is uncontrollable and arousal is uncontrollable. But attraction and arousal are not love. They can lead to love, but they are not love. Love is a choice.

You must choose to love God; he won't force you to love him (Deuteronomy 30:20). You can thumb your nose at God and go a totally different way. You can destroy your life if you choose to do that. God still won't force you to love him. Because he knows love can't be forced.

And this same principle is true about your relationships: you can choose to love others, but God won't force you to love anyone.

Numbers 30:2 "When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said."

I have never been to court where I am required to raise my hand and respond to the following question: "Do swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?" The United States government expects us to keep the oath we make in a court of law. The sad thing is that we are expected to keep the oath but they are not expected to do the same. When Geronimo met with General Miles and General Miles gave him the promises that the government expected him to keep, he said, "We took an oath not to do any wrong to each other or to scheme against each other." But I wonder if General Miles knew that even though he intended to keep the oath, the United States government did not. I wonder what went through his mind as he and Geronimo took this oath and promised that they would do no wrong against each other and that they would not go against each other.

For an Apache, an oath was his life. He was expected to keep his word. He would do what he said he would do. Oaths were important, so as Geronimo took this oath with General Miles, a history of obedience came in support of his words. But he was taking a risk because he knew by personal experience that for the White Eyes, their words were not meant to be kept. They were just words that came out of their mouths. But For God the Creator an oath is more than just words. He demands that our promise be more than just words. He expects us to keep what we said we would do. Moses said, "When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said." As Geronimo and General Miles swore that they would not wrong each other nor scheme against each other, Geronimo meant what he said. If General Miles and the United States government had kept their word, things might be a little different for our Apache people as well as our other Apache brothers and sisters.

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play without in the woods. He practiced in the woods, but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner.

As he was walking back he saw Grandma’s pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head, and killed it. He was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.

After lunch the next day Grandma said, “Sally, let’s wash the dishes.” But Sally said, “Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.” Then she whispered to him, “Remember the duck?” So Johnny did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grand! ma said, “I’m sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.” Sally just smiled and said,” Well that’s all right because Johnny told me he wanted to help.” She whispered again, “Remember the duck?”

So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help.

After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally’s he finally couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, “Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing. But because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you.”

Thought for the day and every day thereafter: Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done — and the devil keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, debt, fear, hatred , anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, etc.) whatever it is, you need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing, He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven. He’s just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you.

The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness, He not only forgives you, but He forgets -
It is by God’s Grace and Mercy that we are saved.

Be Blessed and remember God is at the window!…………

Talking to GOD...
By Adam Edelstein

GOD SAID: Nice touch.

I SAID: Thanks. But...what are we talking about?

That WWJD bracelet you're wearing.

Oh. Yeah. I've got five.

I know. You can match 'em with just about anything in your closet can't you?

Yeah. Cool, huh?

You've got a pretty good collection.

Yep.

Too bad it's not more.

Well I'll get a few more-eventually. After all they do cost.

No, I'm not talking about adding more bracelets to your collection. But you're right-there is a cost involved.

Uh oh. I've got a feeling we're not on the same page, are we, God?

Nope.

Look, I'm kind of in a hurry, Lord. So if You have something to say, could you just say it?

I already have.

Guess I didn't catch it.

Let's go through it again okay? Check out 1 John 2:4-5.

Uh. All right. Gimmie a sec.

It's under your bed.

What?

Your Bible.

How'd you know that's what I was look-

I'm God, remember? I know everything.

Oh, yeah. Okay here we go: "Someone may say, 'I am a Christian; I am on my way to heaven; I belong to Christ.' But if he doesn't do what Christ tells him to, he is a liar. But those who do what Christ tells them to will learn to love God more and more. That is the way to know whether or not you are a Christian." So...lay it on me, God. What are you saying?

I'm saying it sure would be nice if that WWJD bracelet you're wearing was more than a fashion statement. But if it were....it would cost.

Hey, wait a sec! I'm not just wearing this as a fad! I know what it stands for. I believe in it.

Believing in a phrase....and living the lifestyle are two different things.

I'm listening.

Well, to really live out the WWJD lifestyle may cost you some dates.

Guys?

And maybe some friends.

The girls?

And maybe your time.

My TV shows?

WWJD means asking yourself "What would Jesus do" before anything and everything you do.

Well, yeah...technically.

Excuse me?

I mean, yeah...we all know what the letters stand for. But...

But to take it seriously. I mean to actually ask ourselves that question...well, that would change everything -or at least a lot! Check out 1 John 2:6.

Okay. Got it right here. "Anyone who says he is a Christian should live as Christ did" Hmmm.

So what's it gonna be? A fashion statement or a lifestyle backed with commitment?

But, God, I'm not sure You really understand, If I truly asked what You do..well, You probably wouldn't go to the movie I'm gonna see this Friday with Brian.

Not that particular one; no.

And you probably wouldn't want me hanging out with Kari as much.

She shoplifts. And since you're not doing anything to confront her or trying to introduce her to Me, she's pulling you down, Yeah I'd like you to quit spending so much time with her.

God, If I start asking myself that question...

If you don't, and you continue to wear that bracelet you're a phony.

That's harsh don't You think?

Read my words again. The ones in 1 John 2:4. Read the last part of the verse.

"But if he doesn't do what Christ tells him to, he is a liar" Ouch.

Yes...ouch. I died for those words.

I know.

I also died to give you the power you need to put those words into practice.

I'm not that strong, God.

I know. I made you, remember? I realize you're weak. I know your temptations. But I can equip you with everything you need to become all you need to be.

You know what this means, don't you? There maybe be Friday nights I'm home alone.

No, not alone. I've promised to never leave you. I would love to spend this Friday night with you.

Is this for real?

So I shed my real blood.

But....Friday night...alone with GOD?

Oh, my child, the things I want to do in your life. The dreams I want to give you! The vision I want to create with you. I have so much in store for you, your mind couldn't comprehend it if I told you everything right now.

Wow. For me? That's kind of exciting!

For you. You're that special. I dream big dreams for you.

I'm pretty good at dreaming too, God.

Yes you are. But My dreams are even bigger then your Imagination! Check out Ephesians 3:20.

Okay, here it is: "Now glory be to GOD who by his mighty power at work within us in able to do far more than we would ever dare or even dream of beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes."

And what about Jeremiah 29:11?

Old Testament. Got it. "For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope"

Wow.

My child, I love you way too much to let you slide. It hurts me to watch you settle for WWJD being mere piece of fabric wrapped around your wrist when it's meant to be much more.

I'm sorry, Father, I never really thought about it.

You see, I went through more torture than you can even fathom....just so you could live WWJD instead of simply wear it.

That is a lot to swallow.

And I did it because I love you,

But Father, I don't deserve love that great.

And you know what? If you had been the only person in the entire world, I still would have gone through the crucifixion just for you.

Jesus, will You forgive me? I'm so sorry. I never meant to take your death for granted. I don't want to be a phony. I want to be genuine and full of You. I want people to see a difference in my life. I'm sorry. I've taken you for granted. Jesus, fill me. Let me be putty in Your hands. Remake me in Your image.

Yes.

I need to hurry to my piano lesson right now Lord. And as soon as that's over, I have an important appointment.

Oh?

With my Bible and my Heavenly Father. We need to talk about my friends, my time, and my entertainment.

Guess what?

What?

That's exactly what Jesus would do!

Psalm 7:17 "I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High."

It was a wonderful weekend. We had two events that made it great. The first event was a pow wow where our drum was the host drum. That meant that we took care of all the songs that the dancers needed to dance with. The second event was our monthly Indian church service in San Antonio. Since the pow wow was a small pow wow it ended with enough time to rush ten miles to the north side of town where we have the Chief of Chiefs Christian Church. What made both events as if they were one and the same was that the songs we sang in our Indian Church service were also sung at the pow wow. Fourteen years ago God the Creator directed me to start our first local Indian church service which eventually led to the worship services we now hold at some of the pow wows in the area. The songs around the drum have become a very important factor in our worship services as well as the songs we are now singing as our drum sings at pow wows.

But one thing I have noticed in the last fourteen years is that the English words are not needed to communicate the spirit of praise to God the Creator. The songs that God the Creator gives me come out of a time of personal praise and prayer. As I drive around and walk around, the songs are given to me. As I sit at home or work out at the buffalo farm, the songs come. I do not have to sit at a piano or a desk to compose these songs. They come to me as I pray and worship my God and Creator. This weekend as we drummed, several dancers came to me and said, "There is power in your songs." One dancer said, "When you guys sing I sense the presence of God the Creator in our circle." Three times I heard dancers say, "I felt that in my heart." These statements do not bring pride to my heart, but they bring a desire to write even more songs. My songs come not from necessity, but from worship. They come from the times that I come before God the Creator with my desire to draw closer to Him. David encouraged us by saying, "I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High." I am no one special, just a man who desires to feel the presence of God the Creator through the songs He gives me. Next time you go before God the Creator, sing a song and praise His Holy Name.

BOAST NOT - Galatians 6:14

Galatians 6:14 "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ...."

December 8, 2009

Paul says in this Scripture that he does not boast in anything whatsoever, save in the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to him and him to the world.

Humility is a great virtue. Sometimes we get so excited for Jesus that we become boastful. We start forgetting who we were before we were saved. When a man is a sinner and he comes through for Christ, he is so grateful for having been set free that he will never boast. He is so thankful that his name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life, that the last thing he wants to do is to start to brag.

But the tragedy is that after we've known the Lord for some time we tend to forget what God has set us free from. Remember the parable that the Lord told where the master forgave his servant because he could not pay a small debt? Then, when his servant's colleague owed him a minute amount of money, he would not release him but took him to the magistrate and had him put in jail.

We need to be very careful today that we don't become self righteous, because if the truth would be known, all we are is sinners, saved by grace. Let all the glory go to Jesus Christ. If there's anything good in us at all, let it be credited to His name and not ours.

When we die to self, this world has no more hold over us. So it's not really important anymore what people think about us. What's important is what people think about Jesus Christ. That's where the liberty is. Then we can become like that eagle and start to soar up into high places.

Be careful that we don't boast today about something which actually has nothing to do with us. It's all to do with Jesus. The cares of this world, the responsibilities of this world, and what people think about us, should not affect us one little bit if we are totally crucified and surrendered to Christ.

If we boast today we need to boast of only one thing: That our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life, not because we are good people, but because we believe.

Genesis 1:11-12 "Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good."

I am sure most of you are trying to recover from Thanksgiving. I think it is funny that for some reason, most of us forget our diet and forget to eat proportionately, but let ourselves go and forget whatever wisdom we might have when it comes to eating. But as I ate today, I looked around our massive table prepared by my mother and I could not help but smile. You see, if it were not for us, the Indian people, you would not have much of a Thanksgiving feast. I saw a sliced turkey along with mashed potatoes. I saw corn along with a corn and squash casserole. I saw green beans along with cranberry sauce. There were tomatoes in the salad and of course, who could have Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie. I was surprised no one brought yams and all the stuff you can make with them. With the exception of a few other items, all that was served today were foods that we provided to the world.

Actually, it has been said that our Native people of times past provided sixty percent of the food the world eats today. Foods that God the Creator placed before us and foods that were cultivated and produced by tribes all over the Americas. God the Creator said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so... And God saw that it was good." It was the good of our land that fed the world; the good of our land that saved the world. The good of our land that gave people nourishment and survival. Next time you celebrate Thanksgiving make sure you thank God the Creator for His provision. But then, thank God the Creator for the Indian people who were the original providers of the feast.

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)
(This guest devotional is by Jon Walker, editor of the Purpose Driven Life On-line Devotionals.)

Most translations of Matthew 11:28-30 refer to the easy "yoke" of Jesus-"Take my yoke upon you..." But Eugene Peterson's paraphrase above captures the spirit of Jesus' teaching.

Jesus is looking for companions of compassion. Compassionate friends who will love others in the same way Jesus loves us. Jesus wants us to journey with him, get to know him, not run off to do things for him while we ignore him.

"Aren't you tired and burned out on all that religious stuff, anyway?" Jesus, in a sense, asks. "Look, come walk with me, and I'll help you get back your life, your real purpose. And even though it'll require some hard-very hard-work, you'll be energized by it because you'll be living a life of abundance. You'll be doing exactly what our Father created you to do, and more importantly, you'll be exactly who I want you to be."

There's still a chance Jesus may ask you to be a yoked-up plow-horse in service to God, but Jesus is more likely asking you to join his school of Christ as a student taking on the teacher's yoke.

This Christmas you can become a companion of compassion with Christ.

Jesus says, "Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls." (Matthew 11:29-30 NLT).

It's weighing heavy on me. It's all I can think about, night and day. Before I bring it to you in prayer, I suppose I should pray for those who are less fortunate than me----- those in this world who have barely enough food for this day, and those who don't have a roof over their heads at night.

I also pray for families who have lost loved ones in sudden death, for parents whose children have leukemia, for the many people who are dying of brain tumors, for the hundreds of thousands who are laid waste with other terrible cancers, for people whose bodies have been suddenly shattered in car wrecks, for those who are lying in hospital with agonizing burns over their bodies, whose faces have been burned beyond recognition.

I pray for people with emphysema, whose eyes fill with terror as they struggle for every breath merely to live, for those who are tormented beyond words by irrational fears, for the elderly who are wracked with the pains of aging, whose only
"escape" is death.

I pray for people who are watching their loved ones fade before their eyes through the grief of Alzheimer's disease, for the many thousands who are suffering the agony of Aids, for those who are in such despair they are about to commit suicide, for people who are tormented by the demons of alcoholism, and drug addiction.

I pray for children who have been abandoned by their parents, for those who are sexually abused, for wives held in quiet despair, beaten and abused by cruel and drunken husbands, for people whose minds have been destroyed by mental disorders, for those who have lost everything in floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
I pray for the blind, who never see the faces of the ones they love, or the beauty of a sunrise, for those whose bodies are horribly deformed by painful arthritis, for the many whose lives will be taken from them today by murderers, for those wasting away on their deathbeds in hospitals.

Most of all, I cry out for the millions who don't know the forgiveness that is in Jesus
Christ.... for those who in a moment of time will be swept into Hell by the cold hand of death, and find to their utter horror the unspeakable vengeance of eternal fire. They will be eternally damned to everlasting punishment.

O God, I pray for them. Strange, I can't seem to remember what my problem was.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen."

EX 33:14 The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

There is nothing better in life then to give the body a little rest. I am not saying I am getting old, but I am getting older and it seems like what I used to do is becoming a little hard now as I start getting older. The last four days have been filled with excitement as I have performed and spoken eight times in four days. It is a lot of work, but at the same time it is a blessing that I can do what I do. It is a blessing to see the eyes of those you are speaking and dancing for. It is exciting to see that what you are saying is making sense in the hearts of the listeners. But as always the various joints and muscles tell me to take a little time to relax and get ready for the next move in my life. My feet tell me it is time to rest. My arms tell me it is time to rest. My back tells me it is time to rest. My head and eyes tell me it is time to rest. So I sit here on a cold winter's day in Michigan catching up with the rest I need to keep on doing what I love to do best--speak and dance.

But their is a greater rest for us then just sitting around relaxing. It is the spiritual rest we get when we know that God the Creator is right here with us. It is the rest we get with the knowledge that God the Creator is holding us by the hand and leading us on. It is the rest we feel within our hearts when we feel we can not go one more step, yet God the Creator tells us to keep on going. It was Moses who wrote, "The LORD replied, 'My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Moses saw the impossibility and God, knowing his heart, told him not to worry that He, and He alone, would get him through the conflict. Sometimes renewed strength comes to us just having the knowledge that God the Creator is right here with us as we travel along the journey He has placed before us.

Generosity Builds Community by Rick Warren (Posted by Mia Swanepoel on Facebook)

Generosity Builds Community
By Rick Warren

December 05, 2009

"Your generosity ... not only provides for the needs of God's people, but also produces prayers of thanksgiving to God." (2 Corinthians 9:12)
When we're generous with each other, we thank God for each other and we're drawn closer to each other.

One of my friends learned the connection between generosity and community when one of his neighbors came by to borrow a ladder. A few weeks later, my friend discovered his neighbor already had a ladder, but the neighbor borrowed one as a way of building a relationship.

My friend said, "When my neighbor borrowed my stuff, it made me feel like I was needed, and I liked that feeling. Now I do the same thing with other neighbors. For instance, my neighbor, Roger, has a Shop Vac, and I borrow it every Friday to clean my car. Roger even leaves it out for me on Fridays. I told Roger the other day that I could buy my own Shop Vac, but I liked the interaction with him. He told me not to buy one because he liked the interaction, too."

The Bible says, "Your heart will be wherever your treasure is." (Matthew 6:21) Wherever I put my time, my money, my effort, my energy, wherever I invest myself - that's what's going to attract me.

For some of you, your heart may be in your home. That's where you're putting your time, your money, and your energy - fixing it up. Or your heart may be in your work. That's where you're putting your time, your money and your energy. Or it may be in a hobby. That's where you're putting your time, your money and your energy. Wherever your treasure is, your heart's going to be there.

So, when I'm generous with you or with the poor or with anybody, that's where my heart tends to go. And every time I give to God, it draws my heart closer to God, and every time I give to you, it draws my heart closer to you. Giving or generosity creates community.

The first Christians were famous for their generosity. "The community of believers... shared everything in common." (Acts 4: 32) They were a family; they shared it all: 'What's mine is yours, and you can share it with me.' It was voluntary. Christianity says, "What's mine is yours and you can share it with me."

When you're a parent, and you have little kids in your home, you enjoy watching them share with each other? When you see that your kids are unselfish, you're very happy with that.

And God is the same way.

When God looks down on us and He sees us being generous with each other He says, "That's My boy! That's My girl! They're doing what I want them to do." Because God is generous, and He wants us to become like Him.

I had two very different days recently. The first one was really rough. My body hurt and ached. I felt grouchy and irritable. My pets seemed to be constantly underfoot. My kids were arguing a lot. Everyone I met on the street looked sullen and unfriendly. The sunshine outside even hurt my eyes. The day was so full of stress and worry that I couldn’t even sleep that night.

The second day was wonderful. My body felt energized and healthy. I was laughing and smiling the whole day long. My pets were lovable and affectionate. My children warmed my heart with their kind words and tender hugs. Everyone I saw outside seemed to have a smile and a happy wave to share. The sun peeking through the clouds made my soul light up as well. The day’s problems were handled easily with humor and joy and I slept like a baby that night.

In truth, however, the only real difference between those two days was me. It was me who made the first day so rotten and it was me who made the second day so glorious. It was me who just idled through the first day grumbling about the world. And it was me who spent the second day thanking God for my life, sharing my love with everyone I could, and giving my joy to the world. I am glad that God forgives me for all the day ones I have had in my life. Thankfully, they are becoming fewer and fewer as time goes on. I am so delighted too that God has given me so many day twos to enjoy and share with others. I hope as well to make every single day I have left in this world a day two kind of day.

What kind of day do you want to live today? What kind of day do you want to live for the rest of your life? Each day here is a glorious gift from God. It is up to us, however, to "rejoice and be glad in it." Don’t just idle through your days then when you can really live them. Don’t just exist in a day one when you can love, laugh, sing, dance, pray, enjoy, and delight in a day two.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob."

It was another good day. I spoke and danced before three Juvenile Detention Centers full of teenage kids whose paths and plans did not go the way they were intended to go. But as I spoke in the second session I noticed one young man about sixteen years of age. As I looked at him I could tell he was Native. But at the same time I noticed that he did not look too interested in what I was saying. Each time I looked his way he looked down at the ground. I realized though, that he was not being rude; it was as if he was really thinking and meditating on what I was saying. Finally at the end of my presentation which consisted of dancing, drumming, playing my flute and sharing stories I spoke on choices. I asked the teens, "Do you know why you are here?" and this young man looked at me for the first time and said, "Because I made bad choices." I looked at him and said, "Yes, you have made bad choices but today, with God's help, you can start making good choices that will help you on the right path."

You see, life is full of choices. Each day we wake up and choose life or death. We choose to obey or disobey. Each day we choose to do what God desires of us or to go on our own path. Moses wrote, "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." We choose our own destiny. We choose our own direction. We choose the path we are to follow. We choose each day to succeed or fail. As we follow Him we need to make sure we are obeying His will for our life. Moses said if you want to choose life you need to love the Lord, listen to His voice and hold fast to Him. If we choose a path of obedience, He will give us a good and prosperous life on this earth. The choice is ours.

You know we read in the paper and we hear on the air

Of killing and stealing and crime everywhere

And we sigh and we say as we notice the trend

This young generation, where will it end

But can we be sure that it's their fault alone

I mean that maybe a part o...f it isn't our own

Are we less guilty who place in their way

Too many things that lead them astray

Like too much money

Too much idle time

Too many movies of passion and crime

Too many books that are not even fit to be read

Too much evil in what they hear said

and too many children encouraged to roam

By too many parents who won't even stay home

Well! Kids don't make the movies

and they don't write the books

They don't paint gay pictures of gangsters and crooks

They don't make the liquor and they don't run the bars

They don't make the laws and they don't buy the cars

They don't make the junk that addles the brain

That's all done by older folk, greedy for gain

Delinquent teenagers? How we condemn

The sins of a nation and blame it on them

But the laws that are blameless the Savior makes known

Now you tell me who's here among us to cast the first stone

In so many cases its sad but its true

The title DELINQUENT Fits older folk too

So Don't blame it on the children!

Proverbs 17:6 "Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children."

Children are a special gift from God the Creator. They come in all different sizes and shapes. They come with many different talents. But all children come with one thing - they all need to be loved and nourished and led in the direction God the Creator has for them to go. But what happens when a child is not loved? Today I spoke and danced for a couple of groups of kids whose lives went wrong. Two groups of kids who were not loved and whose parents did not do what they were called to do, love them and bring them up in a way that honors God the Creator. A group of kids who know they have done wrong and are in a dark place, paying the price for their wrongdoing. But they are with a group of men and women who are desperately trying to do what their parents would not do - direct them in a good path. I don't know their stories and why they are in detention centers, but I could see it in their eyes today that they are all hurting.

As I left today I could not help but wonder what it would take to put them on a right path. What is missing in their life, and how could it be replaced so that they could be directed on a path that honors God the Creator? It goes back to the parents. God the Creator gave each of us parents to prepare us for whatever the future might bring. To prepare us for a path that honors and glorifies God the Creator. But when the parents fail is when the children fail. Solomon said, "Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." The children are a crown for those aged or for the grandparents, but the parents become the pride of the children. The key to a child's success is the parents. Solomon said that the parents were the pride of the children. Things go wrong when the parents fail to be the example that brings pride to their children. Lack of pride comes when the parents decide to venture on their own and do what they feel is best in their hearts and not what God the Creator desires of them. When children lose their parental pride, they lose in life. After all, we teach by example; and if we as parents give our children bad examples, that is all our children will have to follow.

Be a People-Builder This Christmas by Rick Warren (Posted by Mia Swanepoel)

Be a People-Builder This Christmas
By Rick Warren
Posted by Mia Swanepoel

December 03, 2009

In response to all he has done for us, let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good. Hebrews 10:24 (TLB)
There's a price tag for being a people-builder: It requires unselfishness.

But why should we do it? "In response to all he has done for us, let us outdo each other in being helpful and kind to each other and in doing good." (Hebrews 10:24, TLB)

At some point, the Romans confuse the word "cristos" with "crestos." Cristos means Christ; Crestos, in Latin, means kindness. In a roundabout way, that confusion can teach us something: Christians should be the kindest of all people.

I want to give you an objective -- and that is to be a people-builder not just for this holiday season, but for the rest of your life. Begin by writing down the name of one person you want to help build up, then stop and pray.

Ask God to show you that person's strengths. We always build on our strengths, not on our weaknesses. Write down whatever strengths you've seen in him or her in the past.

Then tell that person, "I've been thinking about you because I really care about you. I wanted to share with you- from my viewpoint- the strengths I see in your life because those strengths determine what God wants us to do in our lives."

Imagine the impact you could have if you would commit yourself to being a people-builder; if you determined to bring out the best in everyone you know; to help people grow and to become what God made them to be.

Know that you don’t have to carry your burden alone…

November 26, 2009

"Why was my burden so heavy?" I slammed the bedroom door and leaned against it. Is there no rest from this life? I wondered. I stumbled to my bed and dropped onto it, pressing my pillow around my ears to shut out the noise of my existence.

"Oh God," I cried, "let me sleep. Let me sleep forever and never wake up!"

With a deep sob I tried to will myself into oblivion, then welcomed the blackness that came over me.

Light surrounded me as I regained consciousness. I focused on its source: The figure of a man standing before a cross.

"My child," the person asked, "why did you want to come to Me before I am ready to call you?"

"Lord, I'm sorry. It's just that... I can't go on. You see how hard it is for me. Look at this awful burden on my back. I simply can't carry it anymore."

"But haven't I told you to cast all of your burdens upon Me, because I care for you? My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

"I knew You would say that. But why does mine have to be so heavy?"

"My child, everyone in the world has a burden. Perhaps you would like to
try a different one?"

"I can do that?"

He pointed to several burdens lying at His feet. "You may try any of these."

All of them seemed to be of equal size. But each was labeled with a name.

"There's Joan's," I said. Joan was married to a wealthy businessman. She lived in a sprawling estate and dresssed her three daughters in the prettiest designer clothes. Sometimes she drove me to church in her Cadillac when
my car was broken.

"Let me try that one." How difficult could her burden be? I thought.

The Lord removed my burden and placed Joan's on my shoulders. I sank my knees beneath its weight. "Take it off!" I said. ""What makes it so heavy?"

"Look inside."

I untied the straps and opened the top. Inside was a figure of her Mother-in-law, and when I lifted it out, it began to speak.

"Joan, you'll never be good enough for my son," it began. "He never should have married you. You're a terrrible mother to my grandchildren..."

I quickly placed the figure back in the pack and withdrew another. It was Donna, Joan's youngest daughter. Her head was bandaged from the surgery that had failed to resolve her epilepsy. A third figure was Joan's brother.
Addicted to drugs, he had been convicted of killing a police officer.

"I see why her burden is so heavy, Lord. But she's always smiling and
helping others. I didn't realize...."

"Would you like to try another?" He asked quietly.

I tested several. Paula's felt heavy: She was raising four small boys without a father. Debra's did too: A childhood of sexual abuse and a marriage of emotional abuse. When I Came to Ruth's burden, I didn't even
try. I knew that inside I would find arthritis, old age, a demanding full-time job, and a beloved husband in a nursing home.

"They're all too heavy, Lord" I said. ""Give back my own."

As I lifted the familiar load once again, It seemed much lighter than the others.

"Lets look inside" He said.

I turned away, holding it close. "That's not a good idea," I said.

"Why?"

"There's a lot of junk in there."

"Let Me see."

The gentle thunder of His voice compelled me. I opened my burden.

He pulled out a brick.

"Tell me about this one."

"Lord, You know. It's money. I know we don't suffer like people in some countries or even the homeless here in America. But we have no insurance, and when the kids get sick, we can't always take them to the doctor. They've never been to a dentist. And I'm tired of dressing them in hand-me-downs."

"My child, I will supply all of your needs... and your children's. I've given them healthy bodies. I will teach them that expensive clothing doesn't make a person valuable in My sight."

Then He lifted out the figure of a small boy. "And this?" He asked.

"Andrew..." I hung my head, ashamed to call my son a burden. "But, Lord, he's hyperactive. He's not quiet like the other two. He makes me so tired. He's always getting hurt, and someone is bound to think I abuse him. I yell at him all the time. Someday I may really hurt him...."

"My child," He said, "If you trust Me, I will renew your strength, if you allow Me to fill you with My Spirit, I will give you patience."

Then He took some pebbles from my burden.

"Yes, Lord," I said with a sigh. "Those are small. But they're important. I hate my hair. It's thin, and I can't make it look nice. I can't afford to go to the beauty shop. I'm overweight and can't stay on a diet. I hate all my clothes. I hate the way I look!"

"My child, people look at your outward appearance, but I look at your heart. By My Spirit you can gain self-control to lose weight. But your beauty should not come from outward appearance. Instead, it should come from your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in My sight."

My burden now seemed lighter than before.

"I guess I can handle it now" I said.

"There is more," He said. "Hand Me that last brick."

"Oh, You don't have to take that. I can handle it."

"My child, give it to Me." Again His voice compelled me. He reached out His hand, and for the first time I saw the ugly wound.

"But, Lord, this brick is so awful, so nasty, so.....Lord! What happened to Your hands? They're so scarred!"

No longer focused on my burden, I looked for the first time into His face. In His brow were ragged scars-as though someone had pressed thorns into His flesh.

"Lord," I whispered. "What happened to You?"

His loving eyes reached into my soul.

"My child, you know. Hand Me the brick. It belongs to Me. I bought it."

"How?"

"With My blood."

"But why, Lord?"

"Because I have loved you with an everlasting love. Give it to Me."

I placed the filthy brick into His wounded palm. It contained all the dirt and evil of my life: my pride, my selfishness, the depression that constantly tormented me. He turned to the cross and hurled my brick into the pool of blood at its base. It hardly made a ripple.

"Now, My child, you need to go back. I will be with you always. When you are troubled, call to Me and I will help you and show you things you cannot imagine now."

"Yes, Lord, I will call on You."

I reached to pick up my burden.

"You may leave that here if you wish. You see all these burdens? They are the ones that others have left at My feet. Joan's, Paula's, Debra's, Ruth's..... When you leave your burden here, I carry it with you. Remember, My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

As I placed my burden with Him, the light began to fade. Yet I heard Him whisper, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you.

A peace flooded my soul.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
(Matthew 11:28, NIV)

And upon his outer garment, even upon his thigh, he has a name written,
King of kings and Lord of lords. (Revelation 19:16, NWT)

Romans 16:25-26 "Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him--"

The question has been on my mind since I arrived in Michigan: did we come from the north or did they come from the south? It seems that both the Apache people and the Ojibwa people have been placed in the same people group, the Athabaskan group. I guess it is because we come from the same language group. The problem is that our traditional stories never include us migrating from Canada to the lands we now live in. So did we come from the north or were we here all along? I'm not sure what the answer is but I do know that according to our traditional stories, we were always here in the land that God the Creator placed us in - the lands we now call south Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and northern Mexico. If we did come from the north, it has long been forgotten and is remembered no more.

I guess this is a mystery that we will never know unless somehow God the Creator decides to reveal it to us in one way or another. But there are some mysteries in the Bible that God the Creator has chosen to reveal to us. Mysteries that bring to light who we are in Christ and what our relationship to God the Creator is in view of what Christ did on the cross. When the Bible talks about a mystery it indicates a truth revealed for the first time. So there are some things that God the Creator does not want us to have to second guess. God the Creator gave the people prophets or holy men to make sure things like heaven and the eternal God would not be a true mystery. Paul said, "Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him--" The truth about God the Creator is right before us if we just take the time to learn and not be ignorant.

Praying in the Spirit
JOHN 14:16-21

I am convinced that if Christians truly understood what takes place during prayer, they'd call upon the Lord more often and with greater results. The believer's prayer isn't simply spoken into empty space; the Holy Spirit is there to guide us in offering God-centered requests, fill in the words we cannot say, and carry our needs before the Lord.

The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity, so He knows the mind of God intimately (1 Cor. 2:11). Since He is as omniscient and omnipotent as the Father, He fully grasps the circumstance we are praying over—even the parts that remain unseen or utterly confusing to us. Also, the Spirit dwells within every believer and knows each one's mind and heart. With this full knowledge, the Holy Spirit can carry out His responsibility to make our petitions match God's desires. Toward that end, He speaks in our spirit and opens our mind to Scripture.

The fact that God gives His Spirit to all believers reveals the value He places on communication between Him and His children. Our Father provides the best possible Helper to ensure that we can be prayer warriors—wise, strong in faith, and fully yielded to Him. But we are none of those things unless we are habitually talking with the Lord.

Christians need never feel guilty for being uncertain about how to pray. The indwelling Holy Spirit knows our needs and desires—as well as the mind of the Father and the details of every situation. He speaks to God on our behalf while teaching us to pray in accordance with His will.

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17

"All Scripture is profitable! Knowing this, we cheat ourselves when we do not access every book, every truth, every verse, and every page of our Bibles for the promises and commands God has for us. Because every verse of Scripture is inspired by God and gainful to us, we should not pick and choose which verses we will read and study. We should not claim verses we like and ignore those that convict us! If we are to become mature disciples of Jesus, we must allow every Scripture to speak to us and teach us what God desires us to learn. Scripture enables us to evaluate the soundness of doctrines that are being taught. Scripture ought to be the basis for any reproof or correction we bring to another.

If you are not firmly grounded in God's Word, you will be bombarded with an assortment of doctrines, lifestyles, and behaviors, and you will have no means to evaluate whether or not they are of God. You cannot develop a righteous life apart from God's Word. Righteousness must be cultivated. As you fill your mind with the words of God, and as you obey His instructions, He will guide you in the ways of righteousness. Scripture will equip you for any good work God calls you to do. If you feel inadequate for a task God has given you, search the Scriptures, for within them you will find the wisdom you need to carry out His assignment. Allow the Word of God to permeate, guide, and enrich your life."

2 Corinthians 9:10-11 "Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God."

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" are the words from a song I have heard for years. It seems like people are starting to enjoy the festivities of Christmas. People seem to change at this time, both for the good and for the bad. But one thing is for sure -there seems to be a greater spirit of giving during this time. We buy gifts for people we care about and sometimes even for those we do not care for. But it's the signs of the times and the signs of the times say to give. Many will max out their credit cards and go broke for the sake of giving. Then December 26 comes along and the spirit seems to disappear. A long time ago, so it was told to me, our Indian people had the spirit of giving more than just a short season of the year; but it was a spirit that went on throughout the year. They made sure the orphans and widows were taken care of. They made sure people in need had what they needed. We were not only a tribe, but a family who looked after each other. The spirit of giving happened year round.

Giving is something God the Creator desires of us, not just once or twice a year, but three hundred and sixty-five days of the year. For there is blessing in giving. There is blessing in knowing you have helped someone in need. It seems like the more you give the more you are blessed. Paul said, "Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." As you give to others, God will give to you. As you increase your love to others, God will give increase to you. He who supplies the seed to the sower and the bread for food will increase what you need to help others even more. This was the way it once was for our people, as they gave to others out of the abundance He gave to them and took care of them. It's time to get into the spirit of giving again - not just once a year, but every day of our lives.

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good", but that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.

We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism;

We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism

We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle;

We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery;

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare;

We have killed our unborn and called it choice;

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable;

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem;

We have abused power and called it politics;

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition;

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression;

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent: to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen."

As you well know, we are getting closer to my birthday. Every year there is a celebration in my honor and I think this year the celebration will be repeated. During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many radio announcements, tv commercials, and in every part of the world everyone is talking that my birthday is getting closer and closer. It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think of me.

As you know, the celebration of my birthday began many years ago. At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all I did for them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the celebration.

Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don,t know the meaning of the celebration. I remember that last year there was a great feast in my honor. The dinner table was full of delicious foods, pastries, fruit, assorted nuts and chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts.

But, do you want to know something? I wasn't invited. I was the guest of honor and they didn't remember to send me an invitation.

The party was for me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they closed the door in my face....and I wanted to be with them and share their table.

In truth, that didn't surprise me because in the last few years all close their doors to me. Since I wasn't invited, I decided to enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in the corner.

They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a grand time.

To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white beard entered the room yelling HO-HO-HO! He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying: "Santa Claus, Santa Claus" as if the party were in his honor!

At midnight all the people began to hug each other; I extended my arms waiting for someone to hug me and do you know no-one hugged me.

Suddenly they all began to share gifts. They opened them one by one with great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if. maybe, there was one for me. What would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you did not get one?

I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left.

Every year it gets worse. People only remember the gifts, the parties, to eat and drink, and nobody remembers me. I would like this Christmas that you allow me to enter into your life

I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago I came to this world to give my life for you, on the cross, to save you.

Today, I only want that you believe this with all your heart.

I want to share something with you. As many didn't invite me to their party, I will have my own celebration, a grandiose party that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party. I'm still making the final arrangements...

Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you. I want to know if you wish to attend and will make a reservation for you and write your name with golden letters in my great quest book.

Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party. Those who don,t answer the invite, will be left outside. Be prepared because when all is ready you will be part of my great party.

See you soon. I Love You!

Luke 12:22-23 "Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes."

The other day, which happened to be Black Friday where people had been shopping since 4:00 AM, I went to Wal Mart to buy some supplies. Everyone was in a hurry trying to get that specially priced item that had been advertise for weeks in the local paper. It was at that time that I happened to look up to the sky and noticed two birds sitting high above the road on an electric wire that ran across the street. The birds were sitting right next to each other. As I approached the intersection the light turned red. As I sat in my van waiting for the light to change it gave me more time to observe the two birds. They were two grackles and they seem to be cuddling as if they were two lovebirds. But the more I observed them the more I noticed that they seemed to be observing the people below. One would look to the right and no sooner would the second one look to the right. Then the other would look down and then the second one would look down. It seemed like each turn of the head was mimicked by the other. It also seemed like they were observing the crazy world of humans rushing around, worrying about whether they were going to make it to that next great bargain just around the corner.

They seemed not to have a care in the world. I guess in many ways, that was the way they were created. The birds of the air and the fish of the sea and the animals of the ground were all created to trust God and not worry. We, on the other hand, who should be above the animals, have the capacity to reason and to know God the Creator in a greater way, yet we of all His creation seem to worry more about the things that the other creatures do not. We worry more about the food we need to eat and the clothes we need to wear. We worry more about those things we need on a daily basis to survive. This was what Jesus meant when He said, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes." So next time you start to worry and lose control, remember my two grackle friends hanging out on an electric line laughing at us and the crazy things we do.

My Friends if You are Single...Do Not Despair by Adam Edelstein (Posted on Facebook)

My Friends if You are Single...Do Not Despair

November 30

Let's take a quick look at the great movers and shakers of the church over the last two millenia.

First, Paul. He took the gospel to the gentiles, was the church's first major missionary and its first and greatest theologian. Paul was a Christian's Christian. Marital status: single.

Augustine: Augustine was the other great thinker of the early church. Most of our theology today is based on Augustine's groundwork. He was the first to articulate the ideas of the Trinity and to expand on Paul's writings on justification by faith. Marital status: single.

Martin Luther: Luther dragged a complacent church back to the bible, and centred it back on God. Marital status: single-ish. Luther was single for most of his ministry. He eventually married an ex-nun to help her leave a convent. In those days, the notion of women working was abhorrent, so the only way for a woman to be housed, fed, etc. was to be married, so Luther married her to give her her freedom. He did little of note after his marriage.

The Protestant reformers: Out of the quartet of John Wesley, Charles Wesley, George Whitfield and Jonathan Edwards, responsible for the great Protestant revivals of the end of the eighteenth century, only Charles Wesley was married.

John Stott: Probably the most influential evangelical Christian writer today. Marital status: single.

Jesus: God himself, who lived a human life to show as an example of how we can live, stayed single.

There are many, many others, but these were, I think, the best known and most influential folk of the whole of church history, and all but one were single for the length of their effective ministry.

I don't know why there seems to be this connection between singleness and Christian greatness. It might be that God feels that he needs to bless people in other ways if they're not blessed by marriage. God always sticks up for the underdog! Or it might be the more mundane reason that single people have more time on their hands, so can accomplish more.

For whichever reason, if God calls you to remain single, then rejoice! He might have greatness in store for you!

We should consider the good of our neighbor and build up his character. Romans 15:2
This Christmas season, I want to encourage you to become a people-builder. It is a gift you can give someone that will last forever.

The Bible encourages us to do this in Romans 15:2, where it says, "We should consider the good of our neighbor and build up his character."

The key to building up people is kindness -- giving them what they need and not what they deserve. When you consider the way Jesus built up people, He did three things: challenged, encouraged, and spoke honestly.

Today, we will look at how Jesus challenged people to be all God made them to be. God doesn't want you to waste your life!

Challenge your family and friends to live beyond themselves and to discover their strengths and abilities. God has given each of us some special abilities, and he wants us to use them to help each other. We're to pass on to others God's many kinds of blessings.

We all need somebody who will help us discover our gifts and who will challenge us to develop, strengthen, and use them. You can play a critical role in this way by helping the ones you love to discover their strengths and abilities, and then challenging them to use them.

And, help them understand how special their gifts are รข€“ that we will all miss out on a blessing if they don't use the gifts God has given them. It's like a singer who never sings; we miss out on the blessing that would come from hearing the voice. We are meant to be a blessing to others.

Some men arrived carrying a paraplegic on a stretcher. They were looking for a way to get into the house and set him before Jesus. When they couldn't find a way in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof, removed some tiles, and let him down in the middle of everyone, right in front of Jesus. Impressed by their bold belief, he said, 'Friend, I forgive your sins.' Luke 5:18-20 (Msg)

Seven ways a small group can reach people for Jesus

#7 -- Your small group must be willing to pay the cost to bring someone to Jesus.

These four men wouldn't have made a hole in the roof unless they were willing to fix it. They had to pay the cost of bringing their friend to Jesus.

Bringing a friend to Jesus always requires sacrifice. For many small groups that means sacrificing their own comfort within the group. Many people have become so comfortable within their small groups that they are afraid of adding new people and messing up the group dynamics.

Before our friends will come to Jesus, they need to see us get out of our comfort zones. But we know that reaching others for Jesus is of eternal significance - it is the most important thing we can do for God while we are here on earth.

Therefore, this Christmas season, "pray that the Master's Word will simply take off and race through the country to a groundswell of response, just as it did among you." (2 Thessalonians 3:1 MSG)

And then be an instrument of that prayer, doing the work required to bring others to Jesus.

Matthew 5:16 "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

Today I had a lot of work to do. Each year I put up a large Christmas light display which averages about fourteen thousand little Christmas lights, that takes about three weeks to organize and display. I have been doing this for over fifteen years and each year I sort of wonder why I do it. I did not start off with fourteen thousand lights but slowly worked up to it with the continuing thought of adding even more next year. It gets so bright outside my house that you can actually read a book with the light produced by the little lights. When it gets cold, you can feel a little bit warmer standing out in my front yard than you do inside the house. But it seems like each year it takes more and more effort. It takes me a little longer to climb up and down the ladder and each morning I wake up with a little more pain than I want to. I guess this is all a sign of the times and of me getting older.

I get asked a lot of questions each year. One question is how much does it cost to light up fourteen thousand lights and the answer is always the same, "More than I have in the bank." Another question I get asked is "How long does it take to put up the display?" It depends on the weather but anywhere between three and four weeks. But the question I get asked the most is, "Why do you do it?" I guess I do it for the satisfaction that comes from knowing that I am bringing a little smile and a warm feeling to the hearts of the hundreds of people who will stop in front of my house. In many ways I am taking the passage in Matthew literally when Jesus said, "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." For one thing that makes my display different than most of the rest in town, is that it is centered around the true meaning of Christmas - Jesus Christ. So through a few lights in my front yard, I am being a light unto the world and bringing a smile and the joy of Christmas to someone's heart.

"But all these things are merely
the beginning of birth pangs (NASB)."
MATTHEW 24:8

"When will Christ return? This question has been pondered much through the generations. The imminence of His coming provides the backdrop for everything the Christian does. Christ has not revealed exactly when He will come, but He has told us signs to watch for. The time of His coming is unclear; the fact of His coming is certain.

Jesus said that certain events would signal the nearness of His coming: There will be wars and rumors of wars; there will be famines and earthquakes; Christians will suffer persecution for the sake of Christ; false prophets will come and teach heresy, leading many astray; lawlessness will abound as people do what is right in their own eyes; the authorities will be unable to control crime. Because of lawlessness, people will become cynical and fearful, and their love for others will grow cold (Matt. 24:6-12).

Jesus said that the signs of the end times will be like birth pangs. The pain of childbirth increases in frequency, and it increases in intensity. Jesus said that the presence of war or famine or false teachers does not mean that His coming is upon us. These things, He said, are merely the beginning. He said that the frequency of wars, earthquakes, and crime will increase until finally Christ's return brings everything to a finish. The intensity of wars and famines and other human crises will also escalate.

Our day has seen everything Jesus spoke of reach unprecedented proportions. If there were ever a time Christians should be alert to Jesus' coming, it is today."

Psalm 37:1-2 "Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away."

Sometimes it is difficult to get ahead by doing what is right when everyone around seems to be getting ahead by doing wrong. Sometimes we look at our faith and what we believe about God and wonder where He is or if He even cares about me because of all the wrong that seems to be going on around us. I have often wondered what our people felt about God our Creator as they quickly started losing things like our land and the God-given culture that was so precious to us. We look at the things going on around us and we get distracted, and in doing so we wander away from the things that are true and from the things that God the Creator desires of us and the path we are supposed to take.

David was man who knew about the good and bad that happened all around him. He knew what it felt like to be rejected by friends and family. He knew what it meant to be victorious and then suffer defeat. But he encouraged us to stay focused. Not to get distracted from the path that we should follow. He encouraged us to have that special faith in God that no matter what happens around us, assures us that He is still with us and in control of our lives. David wrote, "Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away." In the end, the evil of this world will be dealt with. In the end, those who prosper by doing wrong will have to answer to God the Creator. In the end, they will be like the grass and plants of the fields and die. In the end, we who are trying to live the life that God desires of us will prosper.

Seven ways a small group can reach people for Jesus

#1 - Give caring, consistent love to those who don't know Jesus.

Like the four friends who helped the paralytic, sometimes it takes something radical to lead someone to Jesus!

And sometimes it just takes the caring, consistent love of a small group of Christians. As we enter the holiday season, I want to encourage you to plan with your small group to reach out to friends and neighbors who do not know Jesus

The reason God used the four friends mentioned in Luke 5 is because they cared for the paralytic. Just like those four, your life mission should start with love - caring for those around you and caring enough about those who do not know Jesus that you reach out to them during this holiday season. The number one reason Christians don't share Christ with others is that they are too preoccupied with themselves.

Before you can care about others, you must become aware of them. When your small group meets, try to identify the people you know who need to know Jesus.

And start praying for them, that God will give you an opportunity to share your faith in a non-threatening way. Pray that God will soften their hearts and soften your heart.

Then, make a plan for how you can reach out to these people as a small group.

Exodus 15:2 "The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him."

The other day I did the hoop dance before the people of the pow wow. This is from a guy who was told three months ago that I needed a total knee replacement. I must confess when I was told that, I believed that there was no other choice but to do as the surgeon suggested. But in my heart, I felt that I was not ready for such a procedure. I told him I felt that I had a high tolerance of pain and if ever I needed it I would make sure and give him a call. I did agree on my minor surgery but just eight days before it was scheduled, my pain went completely away. How did it happen? Was the specialist wrong when he told me I needed a total knee replacement? Was it God and a wonderful miracle of His healing power? I would like to believe it was a miracle from God and in many ways I feel it was. But this weekend as I did the hoop dance I could not help but meditate on a statement I heard from one of the spectators. He asked, "How does he do it?"

As I approached the microphone I kept asking myself the same question. How do I really do it? For me the answer is easy - because I know how I do it. I know that what I do today is not because of me, but because of God the Creator's strength which rests in me. It is taking all the resources that He offers me and taking advantage of them and allowing His strength to work through me. Moses wrote, "The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him." For when I do the hoop dance I must confess that it is not me, but God the Creator who is working through me in spite of my weakness.

Philippians 3:10

The doctrine of a risen Saviour is exceedingly precious. The resurrection is the corner-stone of the entire building of Christianity. It is the key-stone of the arch of our salvation. It would take a volume to set forth all the streams of living water which flow from t...his one sacred source, the resurrection of our dear Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; but to know that He has risen, and to have fellowship with Him as such—communing with the risen Saviour by possessing a risen life—seeing Him leave the tomb by leaving the tomb of worldliness ourselves, this is even still more precious. The doctrine is the basis of the experience, but as the flower is more lovely than the root, so is the experience of fellowship with the risen Saviour more lovely than the doctrine itself. I would have you believe that Christ rose from the dead so as to sing of it, and derive all the consolation which it is possible for you to extract from this well-ascertained and well-witnessed fact; but I beseech you, rest not contented even there. Though you cannot, like the disciples, see Him visibly, yet I bid you aspire to see Christ Jesus by the eye of faith; and though, like Mary Magdalene, you may not "touch" Him, yet may you be privileged to converse with Him, and to know that He is risen, you yourselves being risen in Him to newness of life. To know a crucified Saviour as having crucified all my sins, is a high degree of knowledge; but to know a risen Saviour as having justified me, and to realize that He has bestowed upon me new life, having given me to be a new creature through His own newness of life, this is a noble style of experience: short of it, none ought to rest satisfied. May you both "know Him, and the power of His resurrection." Why should souls who are quickened with Jesus, wear the grave-clothes of worldliness and unbelief? Rise, for the Lord is risen.Read More
