Boo!
For the youth in your life

November 4

I invite you not to read this but more so, to share with those who could use a different perspective and attitude.

Even to print and have it sitting around when your children's friends come over... or share it with your own child. You may be able to relate to it yourself, as I did.

It was written for a high school audience by a youth leader within our church, and I must say, it really allows us to see real life on all of our everyday struggles, which for me, comes in the form of parenting.

Faithfully Committed to serving the world one meaningful life at a time,

Boo!

So Halloween is that one time of the year where you get to dress up and look like a total goof ball, or the beautiful princess, or the cool guy from that one movie.
It’s also that time of the year when thousands of residents from Brevard County make their way down to the MegOWeen street party.

As a young adult in Brevard I was one of them last night.

Some of the costumes were totally outrageous, and very inventive; like the home made Optimus Prime one.
And some of them just made you wonder if the person had a mirror in their house.

Either way…it’s a sight to see.

As a young Christian, how do you handle these situations? And maybe it’s not Meg-o-Ween, maybe it’s a party your friend is having. Maybe it’s homecoming, maybe it’s just a normal Friday night.
I’m talking about those times when everyone else around you is doing things you’re not doing. Or you’re joining in on the things you shouldn’t be.
Jesus tells us in John “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of Life“.
We are the light of the world.

Jesus knew that we weren’t going to sit in our rooms our whole lives waiting for Him to return. He knew that we were going to be in situations where all the people around us are tempting us to do things we shouldn’t.
But He more than prepared us for those encounters.

Jesus was the light, and if we choose to follow Him, WE are the light.

As I was walking up and down the street last night laughing at costumes, I realized that so many people were walking in the dark. As I stood there with my Diet Coke, and everyone around me (most not of age) were holding Miller Lite cans, I realized that the life I live now,
the one where I’m walking in the Light
is better than any life I could imagine.

God knows what kind of world we live in. He knows that people drink under age, He knows that people do drugs, He knows that people cuss and use His name in vain…but He also knows that you have the ability to be in those situations and be the Light.

Being a Christian is fun. You don’t have to conform to the ways of the world just to have fun. And as long as you’re strong enough, no one says you can’t go to parties, and places like Meg-o-Weens. But you have to remember that you are walking with the Savior. You were created by a God whose love for you is unimaginable. He wants you to have a great and fun life.

But you have to choose.

Will you be the one radiating the Light in downtown Melbourne, or will you be walking in the darkness?
