Galatians 6:14 "But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ...."

December 8, 2009

Paul says in this Scripture that he does not boast in anything whatsoever, save in the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified to him and him to the world.

Humility is a great virtue. Sometimes we get so excited for Jesus that we become boastful. We start forgetting who we were before we were saved. When a man is a sinner and he comes through for Christ, he is so grateful for having been set free that he will never boast. He is so thankful that his name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life, that the last thing he wants to do is to start to brag.

But the tragedy is that after we've known the Lord for some time we tend to forget what God has set us free from. Remember the parable that the Lord told where the master forgave his servant because he could not pay a small debt? Then, when his servant's colleague owed him a minute amount of money, he would not release him but took him to the magistrate and had him put in jail.

We need to be very careful today that we don't become self righteous, because if the truth would be known, all we are is sinners, saved by grace. Let all the glory go to Jesus Christ. If there's anything good in us at all, let it be credited to His name and not ours.

When we die to self, this world has no more hold over us. So it's not really important anymore what people think about us. What's important is what people think about Jesus Christ. That's where the liberty is. Then we can become like that eagle and start to soar up into high places.

Be careful that we don't boast today about something which actually has nothing to do with us. It's all to do with Jesus. The cares of this world, the responsibilities of this world, and what people think about us, should not affect us one little bit if we are totally crucified and surrendered to Christ.

If we boast today we need to boast of only one thing: That our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life, not because we are good people, but because we believe.
