NO BORDERS TO HOLD THEM BACK by Robert Soto

Habakkuk 1:14 "You have made men like fish in the sea, like sea creatures that have no ruler."

The other day while working outside I heard the loud, joyful sound of a flock of wild parrots flying over my home. They are known as Mexican Parrots. They are a beautiful green with bits of yellow flecks throughout the body. They make their way from southern Mexico to South Texas to make our area their home part of the year. They are a sight to behold. Birdwatchers from all over the world come to McAllen to see them and study them. From time to time I have had the privilege of giving directions to my fine feathered friend-lovers who come down here just to check out our parrots. I happen to know where they roost for the night because their resting place is about two blocks from here. They have been coming to the same tree forever - or at least for the last twenty-one years that I have lived here.

But I never will forget a report that was given about our Mexican Parrot friends about twenty years ago. The Department of Interior Fish and Wildlife Department was being interviewed. It was at that time that our not too favorite federal department spokesman said, "Don't the parrots know they belong in Mexico? Don't they know that they need to stay south of the border?" As I heard this person speak about the illegal immigration of the Mexican Parrots, I couldn't help but think of the ignorance of mankind. We set boundaries and expect, not just mankind but also animal life to obey them and keep them. We go beyond what God the Creator established. But the animals of this world were made to be free, just like man was established to be free. The difference is that man has forgotten this freedom and is enslaved by the selfish desires of others while animals only know one thing: they were created free without rules to restrain them. Habakkuk wrote, "You have made men like fish in the sea, like sea creatures that have no ruler." What right do the Mexican Parrots have to cross a border that man has created? A God-given right.
