WORDS WITH NO TRUTH by Robert Soto

WORDS WITH NO TRUTH by Robert Soto

Genesis 14:26 They told him, "Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt." Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them."

It is hard to cover our history as Indian people without having to discuss that fact that the white eyes who were sent to negotiate terms of surrender never meant to keep their word. When Miles sat down with Geronimo he promised him the world. He told Geronimo, "I will take you under Government protection; I will build you a house; I will fence you much land; I will give you cattle, horses, mules, and farming implements. You will be furnished with men to work the farm, for you yourself will not have to work. In the fall I will send you blankets and clothing so that you will not suffer from cold in the winter time. There is plenty of timber, water, and grass in the land to which I will send you. You will live with your tribe and with your family. If you agree to this treaty you shall see your family within five days." It almost sounded like heaven on earth. Everything a great Apache like Geronimo needed would be at his hands.

But how does one take the words of a people who never kept their promises before? You can only take so many lies and then it is hard to believe. Deception has been the tool of the Evil One to keep people blinded from the truth, so when the truth comes around no one will believe. When Jacob was told by his sons that Joseph was alive, "...he did not believe them." Jacob had been fed lie after lie after lie and had been convinced that his son Joseph had been killed by a lion, and now they were trying to convince him that Joseph was not only alive but a great ruler among the people of Egypt. That he just could not believe. Geronimo heard the promises of a kingdom on earth, but that was all it was, words with no truth.
